Last Friday my hubby and I enjoyed a date night out together. We had dinner and drinks at our favorite place before making our way to the movie theaters to watch Suicide Squad. My hubby and I are big fans of Marvel and DC comics movies. We love movies with tons of actions or a lot of laughs. Lucky for him I don’t like watching romantic movies or dramatic movies, so he doesn’t have to worry about me dragging him to see one. If you watched my snapchat this weekend you might have gotten an inside look into our little mini photo session before our date night. I get tons of questions about what goes on behind my blog pictures, so I decided to do a little quick Q&A about blogging photography. Here is an inside look in what goes into taking my blog photos, plus a fun date night look.
I’m so excited to share with you the first of my Behind the Lens Series featuring Laura Vela of Laura Elise Loveography. I was inspired by these series because of her. As a new photographer, it’s been quite a journey learning the different aspects of photography and starting a business is an even bigger learning curve. I was so thankful when Laura reached out to me on Facebook and offered her help and guidance.
When it comes to Texas weather sometimes wearing pants is not an option, but I found this great alternative with my Ruched pants from Buckle. These are so comfy and can be worn dressed up or down, and great for the mom on the go. I love all the colors because you can coordinate with so many different tops. This look I channeled my inner boho with my favorite fringe purse from my previous post and this must have floppy hat for the summer which I also wore in another post. I love my open back detail to this top, and I got it on sale at Charlotte Russe. As a mother shopping on a budget, you would be surprised what cute things you will find on sale. These black wedges are a must have for any wardrobe and are perfect with pants or a dress like I styled in my previous post. Click on the link below and you can get 45% off these wedges!
Printed Ruched Pants: Buckle/ Open back tank top: Charlotte Russe/ Black Wedges: CiciHot/ earrings: Nordstrom/ bracelets: (similar style)/ floppy hat: Forever21/ beaded bib necklace: Nordstrom/ Fringe Purse: Similar style
This past weekend my sister, friend, and fellow blogger Style the Girl, went downtown to visit some of Houston’s local art scene, and some of Houston Blogger’s favorite photo destinations. I wore this super cute and fun pink dress from Sheinside with my favorite yellow espadrilles from CiciHot, which by the way can be purchased on sale for less than $15 in the link below! Can you believe that? When we went to the Lawndale Art Center, I was amazed at the neon wall art. It was a perfect summer backdrop for this dress. I love bold colors for summer! Also making an appearance on the blog is my new favorite fringe purse from JustFab. It’s already sold out so I posted a similar style! I do a lot of online shopping as a mom. It is so convenient, especially when your schedule revolves around the baby. You can find some great deals for less. Check out my links below!
Hey guys I’m super excited to share with you one of my first projects with Stylevise. For those who were wondering how it works here is a step by step over view of my first Stylevise session with my wonderful friend and sorority sister Joanne for her graduation pictures. I created her interactive style guides based on a series of questions she answered when first submitting her style dilemma, (click here for sample questions), her personality, and her personal wants and needs. The interactive style guide below was broken down into three different looks, with interactive pictures where you could click on direct links to find to purchase the product, an interactive tutorial on how to create the makeup and hair inspiration, ideas for props to suit her photo shoot theme, and sample poses to showcase her personality. I even added photo shoot location ideas to make it even easier for her to make her vision into reality.
Below is the first look of the interactive slide. This is a screenshot of it so the links to the pictures are not added. Her first look I wanted to cater to her profession as a teacher. I love the classic 50’s style because it suits her classy personality. Joanne was able to find similar styles she already owned in her closet to recreate the looks below.
For the second look we wanted it to be more semi formal to wear under her cap and gown. We continued with he 50’s style inspiration and catered to looks that accentuated her figure but also had a touch of sass to highlight a different aspect of her personality, yet still keeping it classy.
The last look we wanted to go for the casual Friday look, a more everyday look to showcase more of her genuine personality. I loved the pop of color with the cardigan, and the cuffed jeans to show off her adorable shoes. Love the 50’s inspiration in this look as well.
For makeup, hair, and accessories, we continued with the overall 50’s theme. We had to make sure we completed the look and didn’t skip out on important details such as these.
For the props, we chose things that really meant a lot to her and yet also played to the overall look and theme to the photos. These were all things she already had with her so it was no extra cost to add these in.
When it comes to photo shoots I think its always a great time saving technique to have certain poses in mind, and it also helps in showing you in your best angles. Below I broke it down into three sections though I am only showing the first part of the slide.
Location, location, location! One of the biggest thing about photography is having a great background and having the right background to compliment you and your overall theme. Because it was her graduation pictures we made sure to make the University part of her pictures. The campus was absolutely beautiful so it really worked well with her photo shoot.
I hope you enjoyed my presentation, and if you have any questions or would love to work with me don’t hesitate to contact me. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
P.S Below is a comprehensive video of the complete photoshoot. Enjoy!
This past week was my birthday and I had an amazing day celebrating it with my family. My husband and I both had to work, but not before taking a quick snap shot of my birthday outfit. I’m obsessed with blues this month! I can’t get enough of it! That and animal print accessories. I wore this ruffle top at the Rangers Opening Game with shorts, but it looks even better with my favorite white destructed jeans. My sister bought me my new BKE watch for my birthday, and I love the gold and silver accents because it goes with everything. I recently bought these sandals and they are one of my favorite for fashion and comfort. I can last in these all day! They go great with everything!
I had such an a great birthday and had so much fun taking these photos with my new lens. These are unedited photos, and they are ten times better than my previous pictures. Can’t wait to see how much my photography progresses. Thanks again for the birthday wishes!
P.S. Don’t forget to follow my instagram located below @dawnpdarnell for more fashion and style post. Thanks and have a great day!
Woot! Woot! What a milestone! Our little man is one month and we survived as parents. I can’t believe how much he has grown! Packed on almost 3 lbs since his birthday. This boy loves to eat, fart, and make funny faces. He is advanced in his motor skills, kicking, grabbing, and holding his head up. It was a crazy whirlwind of a month with many challenges, but in the end we couldn’t be more thankful for our healthy growing boy.
One of the challenges I had as a breast feeding mother was keeping up with his appetite during his growth spurts. By his second week we were supplementing with formula in addition to my breast milk. The restless nights, 24/7 eating periods were both physically and emotionally exhausting for me. I don’t think I could have kept it together without all the help from our family, both of our mothers, and my wonderful husband. He saw me at my worse, barely surviving on two hours of sleep, no shower in days, walking around in stained spit up and breast milk leaked clothes, but always managed to make my days better when he came home. Just watching him be such a good father to our son made me fall in love with him over and over again.
Here are some pictures we took of him for his first month. I used my new photo editing software Adobe Photoshop my husband got me, and for the first time using it I was pretty impressed at how user friendly it was. I definitely have much to learn as a beginner photographer, but I am pleased with the results. Can’t wait to watch this little man grow!
