Mama Love – 3 Ways to Make a Difference as a Mom

Mama Love - 3 Ways to Make a Difference as a Mom by Houston blogger Dawn P. Darnell

When I started this blog it was a blog to document my life as a first time mother. I never thought it would be where it is today. In the past two years it has evolved to something more covering more than just motherhood, but fashion, fitness, and travel. But no matter how big it grows the heart behind my blog will always be the love God gave me when I became a mom. It’s true what they say motherhood changes you. You start to see the world different, you start to open your eyes to what is going on around you, and your heart suddenly starts to ache more when you hear and see people, families, children suffering around you. It is hard in these days as a mother, as a blogger, and as someone with influence to stand silent or turn a blind eye to everything that is happening in this world. Especially knowing your child will be growing up in it. Some days it’s overwhelming, even disheartening, but even though this world will never be a perfect place, we still can make a difference. And it all starts at home. Here are 3 ways you can make a difference as a mom.

3 Ways to Make a Difference as a Mom

1. Knowledge is Power

I don’t know how many times I go on Facebook, the internet, or even watch TV and see so much bias news, or I guess the term can also be called “alternative facts”. It’s so disheartening to read some of the negative and ignorant comments, and how many people can fall for it.  As momma influencers it is important to look beyond Facebook for “news” and to be actively educating ourselves on what is happening in our world so we can teach our family.

2. Shop with Heart

Buying power goes a long way with this economy, and where you choose to shop and spend your money can make a difference.  You can support charitable organization like Liberti USA, who gives a portion of their proceeds to help refugees. Plus by wearing this fashion you can non-verbally share what you support everywhere you go. Also shopping small is another way to make a difference by helping momma’s like Ford and Wyatt spread positive messages like this MAMA LOVE tee I am wearing.

3. Share Your Story

As influencers it is important to be transparent with our readers and share our story. As mothers and as writers, we have the gift to connect with our readers, to appeal to their mind and heart, by sharing sometimes the most difficult and/or personal aspects of our lives that make us who we are. This past year as we went through one of the most controversial presidential elections in history, as a mother and blogger I could not stand idly by without sharing my personal story and thoughts. You can read more here and here. Transparency is key for your readers to connect with you. It’s what makes your blog who you are, it is part of your voice and what distinguishes your blog from the thousands of mommy bloggers out there.

As mommy influencers we may not have the time to join a march, or protest in the streets, volunteer our time at a shelter, or donate millions to our favorite charity, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make a difference as a mom. We make a difference everyday in how we raise our children, how we take care of our family, and how we share our story with others. It all starts at home.

I love this! I try to be open on my blog and share my stories about bullying and anxiety, I don’t like to think of the times I was bullied but my hope is to use those stories and bad memories to help others who may be going through similar situations and then at least some good comes out of those experiences. That gold bracelet is beautiful and I love the story behind it.
