Three more weeks till Christmas and we are counting down the days with my little guy.  Every year it get’s more and more exciting as Jayden grows and realizes more what Christmas is all about. We have been watching Christmas shows and movies all year to prepare for this time, and Jayden is so excited for Santa. He tells us non stop how Santa is going to give him presents. His Great Grandma even got him an Elf on the Shelf this year. However, I don’t think he quite knows what it is other than something he wants to play with lol. But as much as Christmas is for the kiddos with presents and Santa, I also wanted to make sure Jayden knew what the true meaning of Christmas and why we celebrate it. Today I partnered up with Be Good for Children to share with you our night-time routine, and how we are teaching our toddler the true meaning of Christmas.

5 Tips for Teaching Your Toddler the Meaning of Christmas

1. Read a Christmas Story book – We just got him this book, and we read it every night before he goes to bed. Jayden loves books and it’s always been a great teaching tool for us.

2. Share examples in your every day life – Praising the little things that makes my child special, whether he is caring, friendly, polite, or honest is a great way to teach the meaning of Christmas and how we are living our lives through Christ.

3. Give back to the community – Whether you are donating your time, toys, or clothes, get your kiddo involved so he understands the importance of giving back.

4. Create a Nativity scene – Jayden loved the one my mom puts under her tree every year, so this year we decided to get one for our house too. It’s a great visual tool to teach children the story of Christmas.

5. Teach the power of prayer – Last year when Jayden was one my mom bought him a prayer stuffed animal that would say the children’s bedtime prayer. A month ago he said the whole prayer all by himself. I love ending our day giving thanks to the Lord and it makes my heart swell knowing my son is growing his relationship with Christ.
